Class Requirements

Finished Size – Variable – Personal choice

In the ‘Making Art With Textiles’ Workshop you will produce a piece(s) of textile art that can be variable in size and used/displayed in a variety of ways. For example if your work is smaller in size you may use them as a gift card/s or a mini canvas. If you choose to complete a larger piece of work it would be very suitable for framing. You can also apply your work to soft furnishings such as  art quilts,  pillows, chair covers etc. It is a versatile technique that also has a variety of applications in fashion such as bags and border designs on skirts

Materials – The beauty of making art with textiles is you often use what is available to you and do not need to purchase extras. Re-purposing discarded pieces of fabric, fibres (e.g. paper) and stitching with items you have in your basic sewing kit are adequate to produce a lovely piece of work. However there a some basic things you will need to bring to class. They are as follows;

  • An idea. This may be a photograph, magazine cutting, a photocopied document. You may have a favourite source of inspiration from online portals such as Pinterest. The beginning of your class will be off to a great start if you have an idea of what you might like to create. I will assist you with the rest!
